The SEEREN project aims at easing the “digital divide” that still separates most of the South Eastern European countries from the developed world, by helping to establish a research and educational networking environment in the region. To that end, the National Research and Education Networks (NRENs) of Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM), Federal Republic of Yugoslavia - Serbia and Montenegro (FRY), Greece, Hungary and Romania (called regional NRENs) will be linked via 2-34 Mbps interconnections amongst them and to the major GÉANT Points of Presence (PoPs) in this area.

This initiative will greatly benefit from the partnership with the TERENA and DANTE. This regional initiative is fully supported by the GÉANT community and will benefit from additional funds aiming at the stability and peace in the region by helping the development of the ICT research and education infrastructures.
