Just like a city, the Internetís virtual space is divvied up into addresses ó not e-mail addresses, but Internet Protocol (IP) addresses. Each numerical address represents a piece of the Internet, and you canít connect to the Internet without one.

The current version of the Internet has more than 4 billion IP addresses. But soon, that might not be enough.
