IPv6 in U.S. Department of Commerce Strategic Information Technology Plan for 2004-2008

The DOC has published an addendum to the Department of Commerce (DOC) Strategic Information Technology Plan (SITP) documentsprovides initial planning for the incorporation of Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) into the Department's Capital Planning and Investment Control (CPIC) processes and Enterprise Architecture (EA).

While Internet Protocol Version 4 (IPv4) currently represents the fundamental internetworking protocol for DOC, the Department recognizes IPv6 as an emerging standard and has already taken steps to ensure the adoption of IPv6-enabled technology as part of the lifecycle of existing investments.
