Agencies plan their move to a bigger, better Internet

Federal employees may not realize it, but their agencies have already taken the first steps away from today’s 1970s-era Internet and toward a bigger, better version.

Agencies have drafted plans for migrating to the upgraded Internet — called Internet protocol version six, or IPv6 for short — by mid-2008. The Office of Management and Budget is reviewing those plans.
