Whither the ITU?

There have always been arguments over who should decide the technical and regulatory issues raised by new communication technologies.

Tensions escalated in late 2004, after the ITU proposed to take on partial responsibility for the provisioning of the next stage of Internet addressing called IPv6, short for Internet Protocol Version 6.
